I am available to give talks to churches, Christian groups, WIs and other groups on the following Christian and general interest topics. All these talks can be adapted to the needs and experience of your group.
General interest
These talks are typically about an hour, with time for questions.
- An introduction to the internet. Looking at how to make the most of the internet, from eBay to e-mail and Facebook to iTunes, I can help you use the internet and your computer more successfully.
- Digital photography for beginners. A light-hearted introduction to the basics of digital photography. Designed to give you some hints and tips to improve your photo skills without being too technical.
- A history of London's underground. An entertaining journey through the tunnels under London looking at the ingenuity and social impact of the oldest underground railway in the world.
- Fair trade in Thailand. A talk and slideshow based on my 'Meet The People' tour to Thailand with Traidcraft in 2008. (Donations for this talk go to Traidcraft).
Christian
I can be flexible in the timing of these talks, but they are generally between 30 mins and an hour.
- Sermons on various subjects and passages. I have preached on a range of biblical texts and themes and am always happy to be asked to do a 'sermon slot' in a church service.
- Effective evangelism. A sensitive look at what evangelism is, why it is important and how we can be more effective evangelists.
- Homosexuality: A Christian response. Homosexuality is a very sensitive issue and many Christians are understandably confused about how to respond. Drawing on my own personal experience, I hope to bring some clarity and some practical ideas about how to love those who struggle with their sexuality. Training courses
These generally take between 2 hours and a day and are more interactive than the talks. They encourage group work and include handouts to take away.
- Presentation skills. A confidence-building training day designed to help you improve all aspects of your public speaking. Covers preparation; structure of the talk; delivery; building audience rapport and handling questions.
- PowerPoint for beginners. PowerPoint can be a great tool, but only if it's used effectively. I can help you create and run your own PowerPoint presentations and give you hints and tips to help you make the most of the presentation software.
- Digital photography for beginners. Covers all the basics including camera selection; composition; exposure; depth of field; working with different subjects; lighting; editing and printing photos. Includes practical work so participants are encouraged to bring along a camera.
